On Saturday 25 May, 2019 the launch ceremony for the book “Hunting memories” was held at Castle Blatná. The author is the former owner of the Blatná estate, Baron Ferdinand Hildprandt (1863-1936).
The book was originally published by Karel Nepodal in 1933 at Ferdinand Hildprandt’s own expense. Castle Blatná together with the magazine “Svět myslivosti” (Hunting world) and the publishing house “Lesnická práce” (Forestry work) has published a reprint of the author’s authentic hunting memories without any editorial or linguistic amendments.
Main guests at the launch ceremony were Mrs. Jana Germenis - Hildprandt, granddaughter of Ferdinand Hildprandt, Mrs. Kateřina Malečková, the mayor of Blatná, and last but not least Mr. Lukáš Račan, the estate's forest manager and the person who rediscovered the book, as well as participated in the publishing process.
The book recounts Ferdinand Hildprandt’s life from early childhood to adulthood. The main theme of the book are his hunting experiences not just from his own estate's forests areas but also from his trips across Europe. The book consists of 12 chapters, e. g. Grouse Mating Call, Seal Hunting or Lubochňa,which is located in Slovakia and where another of Ferdinand’s forest areas was situated. The book includes photos of his hunting trophies and ink drawings by Stanislav Lolek and Karel Hildprandt, Ferdinand’s son. Visitors to Castle Blatná can see his trophies including seals and sea eagles. Hunting and shooting were indisputably the Baron’s passion, however he was also politically active. He was a member of the Imperial Council and a mayor of the town of Blatna between 1914 – 1918. In his time, a school and a railway were built. He was very popular among the local people and was awarded a certificate of merit.
You can join guided tours at Castle Blatna and learn more about the life of Ferdinand Hildprandt and his family. The book “Hunting memories” is on sale at the ticket office.
